„Dlouhodobě spolupracujeme s ambasádou Izraele na akcích, jež podporují mezikulturní dialog a občanům Prahy 6 umožňují blíže poznat život v Izraeli, místní kulturu a tradice.

The Municipal District of Prague 6 supports Israel, hung out its flag

In response to the current resumption of armed clashes between Israel and the Gaza Strip, the Municipal District of Prague 6 has decided on a symbolic support of Israel, a steady ally of the Czech Republic. That is why the Israeli flag was hung out on the Municipal District Hall building this noon.
“I personally support Israel in its relentless struggle for freedom. This country is the only true democracy in the Middle East and our quite natural and fundamental ally,” says the Mayor of Prague 6, Ondřej Kolář. He also mentions the positive relations between the municipal district and the Israeli embassy. “We have been cooperating with the Embassy of Israel for a long time on events that support intercultural dialogue and enable the citizens of Prague 6 to get to know life in Israel, local culture and traditions. It is an expression of a strong friendship between the Czechs and the Israelis, which we appreciate very much,” adds Mayor Ondřej Kolář.
The flag of Israel was hung out on the Municipal District Hall building on the initiative of Councillor Marie Kubíková. “My thoughts in these difficult days go to Israel, with which we have a close friendship. Our country has been developing this relationship for a long time and steadily, so I welcome the fact that today, when our ally needs it most, we are symbolically hanging the Israeli flag on the Municipal District Hall of Prague 6,” says Councillor Kubíková, adding: “I remember visiting Jerusalem some time ago and having an opportunity to get to know local places with a deep cultural and religious tradition. The disruption of the fragile balance in the region also threatens the existence of these extraordinary places. It would be an unprecedented loss for humanity.”
The armed attacks between the Jewish state of Israel and the Gaza Strip, which are a continuation of the long-running Israeli-Palestinian conflict, started earlier this week. The militant Palestinian groups Hamas and Islamic Jihad are firing rockets against Israel, to which Israel has responded with a military operation. In the meantime, mass violent clashes between the Jewish and Arab populations have been reported from Israeli cities. The conflict has so far claimed dozens of lives, including women and children, as well as hundreds of injured.
The flag of Israel will be flown on the building of the Municipal District Hall of Prague 6 until the end of this week.
